You can spend an awful lot of money trying to decorate your home in the perfect style. However, you don’t have to. If you are willing to take up a few DIY crafts rather than buying everything brand-new, you can come up with some pretty exciting pieces without spending a fortune. Some DIY pieces cost just pennies to create.

Most of us are familiar with these two principles as they relate to the whole recycling concept. Yet reusing and repurposing lay the foundation for decorating with DIY crafts.
Below are some suggestions illustrating just how easy it is to practice reusing and repurposing. Needless to say, the ideas presented here don’t even begin to scratch the surface. Your ability to decorate by way of DIY crafts is limited only to your creativity and imagination.
1. Driftwood Candle Holder
Tea light candles are the perfect candles for adding just a bit of accent to a low light setting. However, you might not be too fond of seeing rows of tea lights sitting on a shelf or table. Change things up with a piece of driftwood. You can turn it into a candle holder in minutes.
The first thing you need is a piece of driftwood long enough to hold three or four tea lights. It’s off to the beach you go. Look for a piece that will not need too much work in terms of cleanup and shaping. Ideally, you want a piece of wood that will only need some minor work to create a flat surface on the bottom.
Once you have your wood cleaned and leveled, all that’s left to do is pull out the power drill and make holes (you’ll need a hole saw bit). If you prefer hand tools, a set of chisels and a hammer will do the trick. In just a few minutes you can have a custom tea light holder that also acts as a nice piece of home décor.
2. Mason Jar Lamp
You have a bunch of mason jars lying around the house even though you don’t do any canning. Great. Turn one into a lamp. All you’ll need is some paint, an electric drill with a glass drill bit, and a light fixture kit from your local hardware store. You will probably also want some sand to give the mason jar some weight.
Use the drill to create a small hole in the bottom of the jar. You’ll run the electrical cord through this hole. You will also want a small hole in the top of the lid to accept the threaded end of the light socket itself. Paint the jar, let it dry, and then assemble the light fixture kit according to the instructions. Add some sand and you’re done.
3. Chalk-Painted Furniture
An easy project that does not require power tools of any kind is chalk painting. You can buy chalk paint at craft stores or make your own. Either way, chalk paint makes any modern piece look old and distressed. You can apply chalk paint to tables, chairs, shelves, or just about anything made of wood.
These three ideas should make it clear just how easy it is to decorate your home with DIY crafts. By reusing and repurposing things that you find lying around the house or at garage and antique sales, you can completely transform your home with an entirely new look. Best of all, you can save money while doing so.
