Whether you have a hanging seat, modern ring seat, you will get to know how to install these kinds of chairs. Before starting the installation process, you should know the important things that you need:
- Hanging chair
You must have one hanging chair. If you have a chair without hanging hardware, then you need to arrange that accessory. You should get a ⅜-inch eye screw that can easily hold more than 300 pounds. In addition to this, you have to arrange two quick chain connectors, locking carabiners, or S-hooks as per your preferences. All these accessories should support 300 pounds.
- Chains Or Ropes
You have to arrange sturdy chains or rope for integrating the hanging chair with the ceiling. We recommend you prefer a heavy-duty galvanized chain. It is important to ensure that your chair is hanging 3 to 4 feet high from the ground. It is recommended to measure the length from the ceiling to the chair’s attachment ring.
If you want to have rope for integrating the chair with the ceiling, then you should choose a rope that is at least ¾-inch in diameter. While choosing a rope, you should make sure that it can hold at least 300 pounds. We recommend you choose manila because it is durable and outdoor-friendly as well. Well, there are other options of rope such as nylon, polyester, polypropylene rope, etc. These types of ropes can also tolerate the outdoor elements. You should find out the precise length of rope for integrating the hanging chair. Make sure that your chair is hanging at least 3 to 4 feet above the ground.
Installation Process
Once you have gathered the required supplies, then you should consider the process of installing a hanging chair:
Step 1:
You should find the ceiling joist in the desired location and it should be at least 2×6 inches. It is important to make sure that the ceiling joist can handle the weight of the chair along with the person sitting on it. If your ceiling is covered, then you should start searching for horizontal ceiling support. In case you have a stud finder, then it is recommended to mark on both sides of the joist. After that, you should try to find the centerline between two points. At this center point, you should hang the chair.
While choosing the sport, you should make sure that the space below the swing should be at least 14 inches. You should make sure that your hanging chair does not hit the railing or wall. In case, your joist is not sturdy enough, then you should reinforce it with beams. If you do not have any experience in this field, then you should take the help of professionals.
Step 2:
Once you have determined the sturdy joist where you can hang the hanging chair, then you have to drill a pilot hole. It is important to make sure that this hole is approximately 3 inches deep and should be drilled at the center mark on the joist. While choosing the drill bit, you should make sure that the width of the eye screw should be small than the size of the hole.
Step 3:
After that, you should install an eye screw in the pilot hole precisely. It is imperative to ensure that the wooden part does not split. You have to keep twisting the screw until all its threads are not visible anymore. While installing the pilot screw, you should make sure that the wood does not split. You can take the help of a screwdriver for tightening the screw.
Step 4:
You should integrate the S-hook into the eye screw. If you want to rotate the hanging chair, then you should integrate a swing swivel.
Step 5:
Now, it is time to hang the chair. You have to integrate one end of the rope to the hanging device and the other end with the S-hook at the eye screw. There are different techniques for completing this task. It is based on the type of chair, knots, and carabiners. While integrating the chair, you should follow the
instructions. The basic steps of integrating hanging chair are as follow:
- Make a basic double bowline knot on both sides top and bottom of the rope.
- Integrate one end with the S-hook at the eye screw.
- Integrate carabiner with the bottom rope loop. Again, clip it on the ring on the hanging chair.
